David Williamson - Kansas City Area Musician

David "Top Cat" Williamson is a foundational voice in the Kansas City music scene, bringing five decades of seasoned artistry, exceptional versatility, and a lifelong passion for songcraft to every stage he steps on. Though he considers himself a balladeer at heart, David is a true multi-instrumentalist whose most powerful asset is a soulful voice. It’s an instrument that allows him to weave effortlessly from the intimate storytelling of classic 70s folk to the gritty rhythm of vintage rhythm and blues.

When he isn’t holding down the groove as the rhythm guitarist and occasional keyboardist for Butter & Honey—one of KC’s premier Blues, Rock & Soul bands—he can be found captivating audiences across the metro as a solo acoustic artist. For David, every performance is entirely about connection, whether he's getting a crowded dance floor moving or pulling a quiet room into the absolute heart of a lyric.

This deep musical intuition was forged early. David’s journey began in Atlanta, Georgia, where he grew up completely immersed in the industry through his father’s independent label, Tuska Records. It was there, sitting on his father's knee in the recording studio, that he picked up his lifelong nickname, "Top Cat." His earliest memories are soundtracked by legendary studio sessions with the likes of Richard Marks, Barbara Hall, and the Pointer Sisters—a childhood spark that ignited a lifetime of cross-genre collaboration, national performances, and a dedication to mentoring the next generation of musicians.

Offstage, David balances his creative pursuits with a career as a support engineer for a major local employer. He resides in Lenexa with his wife, Chelsea.
